We took a short cruise—four days, Stonington to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, and back—on the elegant sailboat Whisper. A family affair, and we filled the three staterooms.
Whisper is a 116’ sloop, outfitted for luxury. Comfortable on-deck seating and dining. Interior, all polished mahogany, meticulous attention to detail, framed paintings of sailing ships. Each stateroom with private bath with shower.
We’d admired Whisper from a distance, as it’s sometimes anchored in Stonington harbor, in view from our house. We inquired, and found it was often available for charter; New England in the summer, the Caribbean in the winter.
Nantucket is especially beautiful this time of year, notable for its roses, which grow up and over houses. Another traveler tip: the Wauwinet Inn, with its Topper’s restaurant. Located in an isolated part of the island, this is a beautiful, secluded getaway. We promised ourselves a return visit.
